Songkran in Pattaya

Songkran is obviously off to an early start in Pattaya this year, at least in the notorious water battle hotspots of Pattaya Beach Road, Soi 7 and Soi 8.
While the traditional Thai new year festivities officially kick off only on Monday, April 13, and the main festival day in Pattaya will be Sunday, April 19, the water fighting in some parts of the city has already kicked off two days in advance and can only be expected to intensify over the next week.
The videos embedded below, taken on Pattaya Beach Road and Soi 7 on Saturday, may give you a first idea of the mayhem awaiting you in Pattaya this week.
On Saturday, domestic tourists from Bangkok and the provinces started flocking to Pattaya to enjoy an extended five-day holiday break. As the the three traditional Songkran days, April 13 to April 15, are also national holidays, many private businesses, banks, government offices etc. will be closed for the period and won’t open again before Thursday. If you still wish to join the annual madness, make sure you book a hotel room as soon as you can.
